[G 016/ Masonic], [G 020/ Rosicrucian], [G 028/ Theosophist] and other societies that claim Egyptian heritage believe the system of passages and chambers in the Great Pyramid functioned as places for the performance of sacred mysteries and centers of initiation. The controversial founder of Theosophy, Madame Blavatsky, sees the external form of the pyramid as the "creative principle of nature and illustrates also the principles of geometry, mathematics, astronomy, and astrology." The interior was "a temple of initiation where men rose toward the Gods and the Gods descended toward man." These theories are difficult to prove, however, the initiation ceremonies of many modern shamanistic societies are surprisingly similar to many Egyptian practices detailed in the Book of the Dead. Since Napoleon, many visitors have spent a night alone in the pyramid and have reported going through strange experiences. Napoleon, after spending a night in the King's Chamber, emerged from the pyramid white and shaken and never revealed what he had experienced.
